I miss you, Matt

Wow, I still can't believe it actually happened. When Mr. Ryan first gave me the news, I was really in shock, disbelief that it was even possible. As the week progressed and I attended the viewing and the funeral, the reality of losing him really set in as I knelt down and said my final goodbye. Unreal. How could something like this happen to someone like Steve? So many questions. The only other real experience that I've had with death was my grandfather but this was different in so many ways. Apart from seeing and working out with him the day before, I felt as everybody else that knew him felt, that he was a real true friend. Even though he had graduated from high school, was through college and was an adult, I still felt that he was a good friend from my high school just by all the conversations that we had when we were supposed to be working on Friday nights. His laugh, stories, advice and kindness is something too I looked forward to every week. He made me feel like we were best buds even though I knew he already had so many. He was one of the two reasons why I swtiched martial arts schools,( the other being Mr. Ryan) and the earning of my black sash that would not have been possible without his support and care. His passing only reminded me of the short time we really have in this life and the importance of every moment. He lived every moment to the absolute peak and through his excitement about life,  it didn't matter if I was having a good or a bad day, he changed it and brightened it just the same. I think about him everyday and can only say how sorry I am to his mom, fiance Sara and the rest of his family.   He will always be in my thoughts and will be a part of me as long as I live as I'm sure he will be for you. He was a great blessing to have as a great friend and mentor. Steve,I miss you everyday. Thank you so much for all that you taught me and I will try my absolute best to carry on everything.  I promise to never forget you and to carry on your awesome spirit. Greg Bernstein
